IR analysis
If you post your measured IRs, I'll gladly put up an analysis pdf with all the analysis in the drc docs. --Gmaxwell 20:50, 24 Apr 2006 (BST)
Gallos Results
Wanted to comment on your blog but can't figure out how to create an account. My system consists Gallo Reference3s + a BolderCable modded Squeezebox 2. I'm wondering what reaction your friend Daniel has had so far to using your room correction software on his system?
--> Not so much... we had an interesting first session but my plugin broke when it saw all his squeezeboxes. The first revs of the plugin could only handle one SB per system. So he's waiting for a software upgrade from me :-( There are a few other test users but none of them running Gallos that I know of.
- Later: I now have a pair of Gallos myself, and spent a few weeks acclimatizing before putting any drc-processed music through them. Interesting experience working with these - they're rather good. I'll write up some on my weblog sometime. To your question direct: yes, room correction is still worthwhile with such a revealing playback chain.
I just invested in a bunch of room treatments, which I believe are the best way to start room correction, but I'm thinking it would be really cool to try your approach as well.
--> Agree there's no substitute for a good-as-sensibly-possible starting point. Likewise with equipment; you can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear.
One question: Why are you using audacity to do recording when there are software packages like RoomEQWizard and ETF? Did you not know about them, or do they not do what you need? I'm curious because I want to get the best measurements I can. I'm using essentially the same recording equipment.
--> I like Audacity because it's really flexible. And the price is right. Since I'm writing plenty of code to chomp through the recorded data anyway, all that's needed is a reliable way to get a stereo recording (one channel from mic, the other from source) onto disk. -Hugh
